Week 032024.9.30-10.04
Feedback and Concept Refinement
Last week, our instructor expressed support for our theme and approach but raised an important question: should we use "hello" as our core word? If so, why? This feedback prompted us to reflect on the significance of the word "hello" and its connection to our band’s concept, as well as how it ties into our visual design.

We also began exploring the idea of weaving as a metaphor in our visuals, symbolizing the interconnection of diverse cultures and perspectives. For the poster design, I envisioned layering slices of our four eyes together, held up by an illustrated hand. The contrast between the illustrated hand and the processed photographic eye images would highlight the visual focus.

For the color palette, I chose blue and orange, a complementary pair that conveys both harmony and the dynamic tension of music. To enhance the sense of rhythm, I incorporated vertical white lines throughout the composition. These elements collectively create a poster that visually mirrors the themes of our band’s music.

Photo Shoot for Band Visuals
This week, we conducted a photo shoot in the ECA main building to gather material for our band’s visual identity. The session included both individual and group portraits, which we plan to use for our poster and promotional materials.

For the individual shots, we experimented with adding a dynamic element by having the subject wave their hands rapidly in the foreground. This created a layered and atmospheric effect, adding motion and depth to the images. For the group photos, we explored various formations and poses, capturing a wide range of material to ensure we have plenty of options to work with in the design process.

These photos are key to building the identity of our band. They not only reflect our individuality but also showcase our collaboration as a group, which is central to our concept.

Music Composition: First Prototype

We created the first full prototype of our music this week, using "hello" as the foundation for the beats. The word was repeated rhythmically, serving as the core element around which the rest of the composition was built. To create a strong sense of rhythm, we incorporated percussion instruments in the background, providing structure and energy.

This initial track lays the groundwork for further development, and we’re excited to continue refining it as we integrate more diverse musical elements inspired by our different cultural backgrounds.

Storyboard for the Video
I sketched the storyboard for our band’s video this week, focusing on creating a visual narrative that aligns with the cyclical and rhythmic themes of our music.

The video begins with a sequence of hands moving gracefully, followed by close-up shots of mouths singing or speaking. As the camera transitions from one person to the next, it emphasizes the connection between individuals. Toward the end, the screen divides into four sections, each featuring one of our eyes. The eyes roll outward, creating a sense of motion and rhythm.

This concept is designed to evoke a feeling of interconnectedness and flow, both visually and aurally. It reflects our band’s ethos of unity through diversity and sets the stage for the immersive experience we want to create for our audience.
